Amorphous thermoplastic material balls, they provide excellent mechanical properties and stiffness/hardness characteristics (best among plastics), very good thermal stability and creep resistance, they are suitable for high temperature applications. Tolron balls provide superior strength, stability and wear resistance over a much wider temperature range than balls made from other high-performance thermoplastics. They also withstand a wide range of chemical environments.
An ultra-high-performance polymer, Torlon polyamide-imide (PAI) has a glass transition temperature (Tg) or softening temperature of 280°C, well above the limits of other thermoplastic polymers. In applications under load, these forces are transferred to Torlon balls, which maintain higher strength at temperatures where other thermoplastics yield or melt.
Compared to metal balls, Torlon balls have a lighter weight, quieter operation and longer life, and in many cases do not require external lubrication. Torlon balls are also resistant to corrosion caused by a wider range of aggressive chemicals than most metals.
The main application of Torlon balls is high-performance ball bearings for a number of industries. They were also widely used as check balls in some automotive transmissions.
